On 7th February 2019, Frupinsa, in partnership with Crisolar’s technical team, organised the 3rd seminar on almond tree irrigation management on the experimental farm in operation in Roquetes (Tarragona).
This seminar formed part of the commitment made by Frupinsa and Crisolar to modernise the cultivation of the almond tree, with the aim of achieving an improvement in income in the agricultural sector.
This year the seminar was based on a presentation of the basic notions of irrigation management in the growing of almond trees, made by Crisolar technical expert Josep Àngel Benaiges with the aid of useful contributions of Francisco Vargas, for many years an IRTA researcher and a breeder of several almond varieties, including the vairo.
Mr Kamal, also from the Crisolar team, then performed a practical demonstration of shape pruning on the farm’s trees, planted in June 2016. Two chief objectives are pursued by means of this kind of pruning, firstly to ensure that the almond trees are the proper shape and, secondly, no less importantly, to obtain an appreciable almond harvest from the very first year onwards.
The seminar ended with a short tasting of products from the Terres de l’Ebre area.
The high number of attendees bears witness to the great interest aroused by the seminar. It was also attended this year by young students from the Amposta Agricultural School.
